About Eliz

As the daughter of illiterate parents, I have rather defied expectations by going on to gain a master's degree in historical linguistics and, later, a doctorate with the analysis of correspondence left with abandoned babies. 

I am now a published author and a researcher at the University of Sao Paulo, and elsewhere. I am passionate about my work at Google and credit the #IamRemarkable initiative with transforming my life. I thrive in my work, while continuing my research, staying active at the gym and cherishing time with my baby, and loved ones.

What does it mean to you to be a finalist for this award?

Being a finalist for this award makes me understand the impact that my dedication and faith in the #IAR project has had. 

It goes beyond the quantity of messages I have received saying that the information I shared during the workshops has transformed people's lives, which is already incredibly gratifying. Being a finalist will motivate me to continue taking the #IAmRemarkable message to many more people. It is truly moving and certainly makes my workshop participants, colleagues, friends, and family in Latin America and abroad - who know my dedication and love for the program -proud.

Tell us a bit more about how you’re making an impact through #IAmRemarkable workshops.

Some of the most impactful stories for me were those of two successful young women who suffered sexual abuse in childhood. I was truly touched by their courage to share their story and the emotion they showed when speaking demonstrated how incredible they were for overcoming such a painful experience that repeatedly occurred in their lives, truly touched me.

Having offered this workshop since 2019 and reached hundreds of people, I've come to realize that people can overcome deep suffering in many ways and demonstrate to society how incredible they are despite the misfortunes we all suffer (some greater than others, but no one is free from some suffering and frustration).
